Finally! Senate Pass 2016 Budget


The upper chambers of the Nigerian Legislature has finally passed the 2016 budget which had been submitted by President Buhari three months ago.

The 2016 appropriation bill was ratified by the Nigerian Senate after it passed its third and final reading on Wednesday, March 23, 2016.

Since its submission, the 2016 budget has been the subject of heated national discourse, owing to the discovery of several inflated figures, inconsistent budgeting and outright padding of the document by some elements in government.

Despite all the claims and counter-claims, the senate finally approved the N6,077,680,000,000 budget which was presented by the president to a joint session of the National Assembly three months ago.


After passing the budget, the Senate president, Bukola Saraki said, “We noted the initial hiccups of the 2016 budget and believe the 2017 process will be better.
